I sincerely liked what this app can do. But... I thought I would be able to copy files, such as Pages or Numbers docs, to the iPad and then be able to open and edit. Or vice versa. However Apples restrictions dont allow that... Files are stored (in a private space), but can not be opened by the native applications. They can be viewed just fine, but that is a deal killer IMHO. For example, you cant create a Pages doc on your Mac, FTP the file to the iPad, and then open to edit on the device. Nor can you email a doc to yourself (on an email account on the device) and then save and edit the attachment. I suppose if you have a library of canned docs that you want to view (only), this is great. It works very well with all the doc, PDF, and image files I threw at it. You can create a text file, edit and send (email) some image formats, but the real meat is still hidden from view of the user. This is NOT a limitation of this app. This is a restriction Apple imposes to protect the user. I certainly dont agree and wait for a jailbreak that will open the device to allow "real" use, and unlock the potential of the device, in this case the iPad.
This will be real useful to me..... for carrying around documentation and stuff... looking forward to the possible use of a shared folder so other apps can be used to edit things like numbers docs. Nice straight forward UI - did a nice job with it ! Thanks !
I have both MobileStudio and Air Sharing Pro versions for the iPhone/iPad. While the latter may have a few more bells and whistles, the support and updates from MobileStudio are what sets it apart from other like applications. My other application was updated from "standard" to "pro" and now to "HD" for the iPad. Each time I was required to pay full price for the upgrade, as a new user would. I chose not to pay for the update, or should I say "new application" as the vendor states for the HD version. With MobileStudio the upgrade from my iPhone version to my iPad version was FREE!! Yes folks Free. This along with the ability to upload/download files from within iTunes using the USB cable makes it my application of choice. The only feature that I think needs to be re-vamped would be security for public/private information. Make it easier to separate your private information from public eyes while still allowing users to access information you want them to see. Very nice application!!
A file manager for the Iphone/Ipod Touch is one thing that Ive been wanting to have since I first got my Ipod Touch earlier this year. This app does exactly that and more. It can read tons of different file formats and let you view them and organize them. You sync files from your computer to Mobile Studio. Many file formats can be edited too. This works great if you need to show somebody a presentation or file youve made but dont want to bring your laptop with you everywhere. Definately worth the price!
This program has a lot of potential, however it cant see files already on the iPad, so its functionality is somewhat limited. No integration with any iPad apps at present, so if you were to save an image with Safari, that .jpeg would be invisible to this application. If these issues were resolved, I could see myself regarding this application as indispensable.
This app is clearly still in its stages of infancy. Small things still blemish the face of its capability. (some are not so small). However, the areas at which it does function, it is best in class. The most important things that are left to add include: -Inter-app communication. Photos, email, iWork, etc. -printing. Crush air sharing -server ability. Another tip: look at other file browsing apps, take all of their strengths and add them to your app (especially air sharing). Keep up the good work
Really all this app is in its current state is another Dropbox. I bought it because I thought youd be able to edit documents you upload to it, but that isnt the case. Until that ability is added, save yourself the two dollars and just use Dropbox. As a writer on the go, I need to be able to work on a document on my computer and be able to sync it back and forth with a mobile device. This app promised to be that, and it falls far short. The FTP sharing is simple, but if only used to view documents, I prefer the cloud storage of Dropbox or GoogleDocs mobile. The addition of document editing would make this a very valuable and useful app, but as it stands currently, it is not worth your money.
I was basically writing this app for myself because I wanted an easy way to transfer files between my iPad and iPhone when in areas without WiFi (send image/whatever to iPhone from iPad over Bluetooth and then send the file to whomever from the phone). This app does it all, and it does it very well. The one thing it doesnt do, and I cant believe this, is let me send an image from my photo library. As it is, if I want to send an image, it had to be created within this app - that is, I have to create the file, then go into the "editor" and scribble out some doodle that has zero use. I can make a few lines. Maybe a circle of I try really hard. Something square-ish. What I *want* to transfer is a photo from my iPads photo library. I cant begin to understand why the developers would have gone this far - created an app this nice - only to stop short of adding a feature thats *built in* to the platform. Its *easier* to write an app that imports photos than it is to write one that lets you doodle. I dont want to add to this review, but my mind is so boggled and confused and filled with a traffic-jam of "Really?"s and "For serous?"s that I cant stop. Why? Why? Why? *Why* cant I just import a photo from my photo library? Or a video? Scratch the videos. An image would be fine. Just an image. Imported. From my photo library. I dont understand. It would take these devs all of five minutes to add the code to import photos. Its *so easy*. Thats why Im giving this one star. I truly cannot understand how anyone could write this app and overlook something so fundamental as importing images from the photo library when image creation and transfer is one of the main features. It would take days at the least to write the scribble-editor. *Who would want to send those?* Its like faxing a bad felt-drawing on a napkin. Who would do that? What purpose does that serve? This isnt a painting app. I have Sketchbook Pro for that. What I *want* to do, for example, is import things Ive drawn with Sketchbook Pro (after Ive exported from Sketchbook Pro to the photo library) and then transmit them to my phone. Thats all. Thats it. And its so easy. So easy that I cant take it. Every iPhone development book has sample code on how to do it. Apple does most of the work for you. Its practically just a button, a few lines of code, and... *thats it*. My mind is stopped. The clockwork is all gummed up and weird. I was wondering why this app was so reasonably priced. Its SO close to being what I need, but falls just short enough that it feels like you did it intentionally. Like this is punishment for something I did in life. I might go finish writing my own. Spending two bucks on someone elses is a far better use of my time, but if it cant do something as simple as import images (which it seems every app under the sun does - even ones that have no reason at all to do it), then... maybe I was right to build my own. Sigh. Five stars if you let me import images from my photo library. Sigh. Sigh, sigh, sigh... Sigh.
I got this ap for the bluetooth feature, which does work. However theres no point if neither device cant import files into the ap from other parts of the device. Also it has the least intuitive user interface and most useless instruction/support Ive ever seen.
This is exactly what I needed for work. Thanks!
Was working fine untill iphone 3 After i updates with os 4 it does not work anymire Fix it asap for iphone 4 os
On iPod Touch 2G, with iOS4, video playback crashes the app. Please fix.
I downloaded this app (wasting 1.99) because the description said it worked just like Finder. It doesnt. Its just like GoodReader or Air Sharing. You have to import copies of files from various places and apps manually through your computer via one of several alternative routes. Maybe most disappointing was the Mac OS X import help screen which explained how to connect to iTunes and import files via the app tab using the file sharing box, which was the very annoyance I was trying to avoid. It certainly doesnt "find" your files on your device or show a file hierarchy and let you navigate them. The interface was nice, but... Why, oh why, S.J., didnt you put Finder on the iPad??
MobileStudio having serious problems with my iPhone OS 3.1.3. Application attempts to load but exits right away without any warnings or message providing a clue on wht the problem is. Unistall and reinstall does not help.
This app is great... the only complaint i have is that PDF files over 10mbs wont open, other than than that it has no flaws.
Updated to 1.7.0 which fixed the 1.6.3 crashing. My files were intact! Previous version 1.6.3 kept on crashing but I did not want to delete app since Ill lose my files. Waiting for next update salvaged my MobileStudio files. iPod Touch 1G, OS 3.1.3
Its very cool!! some files I can not open in itunes but since I download this app. I can read it even movie files....Thanks
This is a great app but I wish I could get files from iWork on my iPad without using a computer to transfer files
Great app. I use it often, but since the last upgrade, they changed the way media files are played. Instead of a regular iPhone player, it uses its own. The play button is tiny and it will stop playing when the iPhone goes to sleep, so you constanly have to keep touching the screen to keep it awake or up your awake time. Please fix this.
